Club 420 2

What is the Club 420 2 Class?

The C420 2 class is for students ages 13 to 18 who have mastered the basic sailing skills and are interested in pursuing the sport at the next level. This class focuses on C420 sailing techniques- from steering and trimming, to roll tacking, roll gybing and sailing a racecourse, through an introduction to trapeze and spinnakers. Seamanship topics of knots, docking, care of equipment and safe capsize recovery will be covered in depth. Basic racing rules and racing drills are introduced on the water, while sail theory and concepts are covered in classroom sessions. OCYC Junior Sailing staff will foster a fun environment where sailors with a varying range of previous experience are challenged.

Private boat ownership is strongly encouraged. Old Cove YC has a dozen C420s which are made available to Junior Sailors on a first-registration basis. Using an OCYC boat is not a charter and students are not guaranteed a specific boat from class to class, nor are they permitted to use an OCYC boat outside of their lessons, except for OCYC JS arranged private lessons. If your child does not have his or her own boat, choose the class registration “with club boat”. Only if your child has its own C420 can you choose the option “with own boat”.

C420 2 Class meets three times a week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, in the afternoon from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. .
